The paint color is Annie Sloan’s Graphite. As far as I’m concerned it could be puke green and it would be better than what it was. However, I didn’t seem to mind living with the ugliness all those years. Maybe I was blind to it, maybe I had other things to do, maybe I just didn’t care?
Who knows. What I do know is now that my kitchen cabinets are painted…I’m wondering why I waited so long.
You may want to know several things, like why did I decide on dark, why graphite? Why paint at all?
Here’s my reasoning in a nutshell, price.
Paint is cheaper than new cabs. My cabinets are solid wood and well constructed. Not always functional, but they have sufficed for 20+ years so they will do fine for a while longer.
I chose graphite because it hides a lot and it’s a beautiful color. We used the dark wax after distressing and we ended up with a rich dark shade.
I’ll shut up now and let you see where we are in the midst of our kitchen redo.
My favorite part of my new cabinets is the cabinet door that was finally put back on after I had a panel of seeded glass put in.
That was another project that took several years.
We are looking at hardware for the cabinets.
Probably oil rubbed bronze for the finish, now we are deciding on the style.
Another project on the list of thousands of things to do…tiling the back splash.
We’re thinking tumbled tiles, maybe a design over the stove. And we need to replace the vent.a.hood. We had removed the old vent over the stove and put in a microwave, but when it quit working we never replaced it. Our plan is to add a microwave when we replace the oven. The oven will be moved down were the large drawn below the oven, then put a microwave above the oven.
And we have to figure out what to do with the counter tops.
We would love granite but that is probably out of our price range.
We are still working on the island, but it was good enough for this post.
I’m not sure why there is such a huge contrast in the lighting.
Maybe the photos were taken at different times of day.
I know it’s natural to assume that dark cabinets would make the room darker, but this isn’t happening here.
We have a nice big skylight and can lighting, so it is really bright in this room.
So that’s were we are now…
Painting the walls is next, YAY! You might notice that I’ve started sampling. Can you see it?
